On Wednesday, April 17, we will have a guest of the Department of Theory, Practice and Translation of German from Faculty of Linguistics, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Olha Dzykovych.

What awaits you in technical translation?

At the meeting on April 11th at 14:00, the Production Manager at Technolex Translation Studio, Vladyslav Demyanov, will talk about the real-life experience of a technical translator's daily work and how it differs from expectations. We will discuss terminology, tags, variables, programs for automated translation (CAT tools), and text volume measurement.

Vladyslav will also discuss additional requirements for translation beyond just transferring the text into the target language and practical skills that can be acquired and developed through learning. We will talk about the advantages of being a translator and the current situation in the Ukrainian translation services market considering the emergence of NMT and LLM.

Participation of students from the Department of Theory, Practice, and Translation of the German in the Spring School of Language and Translation Technologies at the University of Applied Sciences Anhalt

During the school, the participants learned to work with translation software, discovered terminology management and machine translation, and studied the basics of programming in Python and prompting.

Moreover, students from our department even prepared and conducted a seminar for all participants on Large Language Models and the mechanisms of modern neural networks that underlie speech processing and generation.

On March 21, 2024, the Faculty of Linguistics hosted a conference for students and young scholars titled "ALMA MATER - Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute." First-year students from the departments of German, English, and French delivered interesting presentations and speeches.

The event's purpose is to showcase youth's creative potential, enhance the effectiveness of students' independent work, provide opportunities for gaining experience in public speaking, and promote free exchange of ideas.

We wish the participants courage and success in their studies and in realizing all their plans, ideas, and aspirations!
